The ideal candidate for the position of senior Dairy Production Specialist should have Degree in Veterinary Medicine or Science,Animal Production/Sciences.Preferable at Master level from a recorgnized University/Insitution and minimum of 10 years of experience in dairy development with atleast five(5) years in a senior managerial level position and at least 5 years of experience in livestock extension with supervisory functions or experience in demonstrated experience in dairy value development with particular focus on production preferably in Tanzzania and East Africa.As a leader of the production team,he/she should possess dynamic and exemplary leadership skills,strategic and operational project management skills and with significant experience in building public-private partnership(PPP) preferably in the dairy sector.
More specifically,the senior Dairy Production specialist will provide leadership,coaching and mentorship in field with a view to:
-Provide overall leadship of the dairy production function of the project in the country
-Lead and coordinate the implemention of dairy production components to the project-dairy cattle healthcare,feeding,breeding and quality calf management at farm level
-Support the process of mobilizing/recruiting/registering farmers in Dairy Farmer Business Association(DFBAs) including the coordination of training programs to improve performance of dairy farming in the target areas
-Facilitate business Linkage between public and private actors and DFBAs
-Collaborate with business development team to facilitate setting up of viable daily hubs
-Support DFBAs to establish and maintain effective milk collection and recording systems by the DFBAs with the view of increasing the efficiency in delivery to processors
-Facilitate the design and use of the best practices of dairy production records in order to capture trends in productivity amongst the targeted farmers
-Support Dairy Farmer Business Association to setup database to track key efficient implementation and monitoring actvities in production in collaboration with dairy business development team
-Lead the preparation of annual operational plans of the dairy production components as a basis for tracking project progress.
-Coordinate the identification,planning and implementation of farmer-driven initiative with the view to increase production volumes and/or productivity
-coordinate the preparation of all dairy production and relevant project reports.
-In collaboration with Monitoring and Evaluation Officer,ensure monitoring and evalluation system is in place
-Manage and maintain strategic network/partnership pertaining to production activities
-Provide support supervision and coaching to projrct cluster production teams
Selection criteria:
-Excelent organizational and administrative skills including strong attention to details
-Proven proficiency in word processing,spreadsheets,database and electronic mail software(Microsoft Preferred)
-Excellent report writing skills,including project proposal preparation
-Team player and ability to work in fast paced,multi-cultural and cross functional environment
-Strong written and ora; skills in English and Kiswahili Languages
-Results oriented and can work well under pressure
-Ability to build rapport with a range of people at all levels of the projrct Ability to travel frequently and for extended period within the project ares,country and possibility internationally.
-Demontrated experience in use participatory development method
-Experience in implementing and evaluating BDS-Value chains oriented projects.
