GENEVA CALL IS LOOKING FOR A
HEAD OF COMMUNICATION AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS
(FIXED-TERM CONTRACT 12 MONTHS)

Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial humanitarian non-governmental organization that engages with armed non-State actors (ANSAs) to promote their respect for international humanitarian norms in armed conflicts and other situations of armed violence, in particular regarding the protection of civilians.

Geneva Call is registered as a Foundation under Swiss law. It carried out 68 projects in 24 countries in 2012, with an annual budget of approximately KCHF 3.5.

Main Role
The Head of Communications and External Relations prepares, adapts, implements, coordinates and monitors Geneva Call’s fundraising, communications and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) activities. S/he is responsible for the efficient workings of the Department, achievement of its objectives, and the management of the team.
As member of the Directorate, s/he takes part in the planning and organization of Geneva Call’s activities, together with other Heads of Department, and as such contributes to the achievement of the organization’s overall objectives. S/he initiates reflexion and discussion on communications, fundraising and M&E issues.

Main activities
• Guarantees the integrity and coherence of Geneva Call’s image and seeks appropriate positioning nationally and internationally.
• Prepares, recommends, promotes and implements communications and fundraising activities.
• Together with the Operations team and other relevant staff, s/he works with the Development Officer to initiate and ensure timely and effective M&E activities.
• Defines the strategic objectives of the Department.
• Defines the general action plan for the Department and translates it into SMART objectives.
• Supervises the implementation of the action plan and allocates available resources (human, technical, financial, etc…).
• Is responsible for monitoring the budget of the Department.
• Ensures and promote internal communication.
• Works with the Directorate to oversee the good governance of the organization, and to propose, draft and implement relevant policies and procedures as required.
• Represents Geneva Call.

Required qualifications
• Ability to represent Geneva Call at high level. Sense of diplomacy and proven negotiation skills.
• Goal-oriented and results-driven.
• Excellent and proven background in fundraising, communications, writing, events organization, public speaking and media.
• Knowledge of communication networks nationally and internationally and in-depth understanding of donors and their requirements.
• Proven ability to write and present high-quality funding proposals and concept papers to governmental institutional as well as Foundation donors.
• Proven ability to manage contractual relationships with major international and national donors.
• Understanding of M&E and how this links with donor requirements.
• Skills in networking, team management, delegation, facilitating group interaction.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Proven adaptability to differing cultural and business environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Significant availability to travel.
• Excellent English and French, a third language would be an asset.

Full time position, 100 %
Fixed-term contract (12 months), based in Geneva, Switzerland
Swiss work permit or EC citizen
