IITA is an international non-profit agricultural research-for-development (R4D) organization established in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and a member of the CGIAR Consortium. You and your organization are invited to express your interest and submit your proposal for the under-mentioned consultancy assignment.
Brief description of the assignment:
A consultant web designer/developer/s or web team/organization will be hired to work on the redesign, restructuring, layout, and technical and graphical aspects of the new IITA.org site. Working with a project team composed of the IITA web development team, programmers, database management specialists, content generators/editors, communication specialists, and other staff in the Communication Office (CO), the consultant/s will help develop a new website for IITA.
Rationale and objectives
The Communication Office, in collaboration with the Information and Technology Services (ITS) and the Capacity Development Office (CDO), is enhancing IITA’s online presence, resources, and tools to improve the presentation and dissemination of information on the web and facilitate access to research-generated knowledge among online audiences.
This project aims to redefine and reestablish IITA’s web presence through the creation of a new, intuitive website that is user friendly, visually more appealing, and with a unified but flexible information framework and features that meet the needs of users such as site visitors, staff and other stakeholders. The new web site should clearly reflect the alignment of communication and web strategies with the objectives and goals of IITA’s Refreshed Strategic Plan (2012-2020).
The new web site should provide a platform for integrating existing project sites, knowledge products and resources, CGIAR Research Program updates and research results, communication and training materials, publications and knowledge products, databases, and other web-based applications. This would enable IITA to showcase its research knowledge in a more interactive and interconnected way, manage documents and information more effectively, and organize and access data, information, and knowledge more efficiently.
Requirements: Technical skills, experience, and expertise
The web designer/developer should:
- have proven experience in the graphic design and technical implementation of user interfaces in a web-based environment. (Note: Candidates should provide a portfolio with examples of their achievements.)
- have skills in software programming, web design/development, and graphics
- be proficient in using WordPress and industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
• have an understanding of the concepts of user experience, user interface design principles, and conceptual design
• have expert knowledge in HTML files, CSS, JavaScript, and php
- be creative and dynamic, with a good eye for detail and design
- have good interpersonal and communication skills
- be able to work in a team environment
- be able to work and deliver under tight deadlines
- be thorough and precise in their work
- use international web standards and protocols in developing the site
- have experience in using web analytics and other tools to improve web sites
Duration of Assignment: seven months
