Tasks
Policy/strategy and management level:
| o Develop the media and communication strategies for the secretariat and the Working groups |
| o Monitor and support agri-business journalism o Organize and conduct roundtable sessions with MP, DP and government officials on topical issues. |
| Working groups and members: |
| o Work closely with ANSAF members to understand and incorporate advocacy components in their initiatives and projects; o Facilitate the Working group consistent with the work plan objectives; Ensure the formulation of the Terms of References for the Working Group o Ensure the coordination of the sub working groups on media, events and policy briefs distributions and create another sub group on the connection to the local level. o Ensure regular meetings, agenda setting (participative) and feedback by members of progress in assignments o Ensure active participation of working group members and create momentum around specific advocacy campaigns; o Prepare PPT, key messages to member & non-members to engage on behalf of ANSAF Liaise effectively with working groups and members on media en communication initiatives o Ensure members receive required services in a timely and professional way |
| Documentation, learning and dissemination: |
| o Review ANSAF documents and publications and produce policy briefs for various audiences, occasionally support research development, e.g. cashew research o Document and disseminate initiatives of value chain and private sector development within Kilimo Kwanza and DADPs; |
| o Produce adequate publications applicable to donor organizations as well as rural producers and their representations. o Produce statements, press releases, position papers and ensure production of key policies in an user friendly manner for grass root level |
| o Participate in the selection of proposed themes for learning event and for “Ulimwengu wa Mkulima” magazine. |
| o Ensure the production and dissemination of “Ulimwengu wa Mkulima” magazine o Coordinate the development and production of videos, radio programs, photographs, and widen the use of national and local media o Identify themes, coordinate and lead E-forums in discussions, including summaries of the main arising topics |
| o Support the design/production of advocacy materials for training - posters, booklets |
| o Organize public awareness campaigns with specific messages, flyers or radio/TV programs |
| o Identify approaches in setting news spots |
| ANSAF image: o Contribute relevant information and provide input to the website and social media |
| o Seek actively to broaden and deepen the organization’s membership |

Qualifications and Capacities:
| Academic requirements: |
| o Bachelor degree (minimum) in Mass communication/ Advocacy/ Sociology or, BA with strong communication acumen |
| Experience: |
| o 3-5 years advocacy experience related to agribusiness and agriculture o Proven experience in Private sector and/or development program with emphasis on direct involvement with membership organizations. |

| o 3 years active in NGO type of work environment, networks and membership organizations and strong affinity with private sector initiatives o Experience in dissemination of policy information |
| o Experience with working under pressure |
| o Experience with working with government Competencies: |
| o Solid understanding of the complexity of business sector advocacy and policy influencing. o Knowledge on value chains, sectoral transformation trends and rural development and stakeholder engagement o Academic knowledge on advocacy and communication concepts |

| Skills: - Ability to design and develop policy releases - Ability to develop, translate message into user-friendly accessibility. - Ability to package evidence based findings and voices/ as arguments in decision-making processes. - Receiving, developing messages, analyzing and communicating (about the way it is distributed) - Ability/skills in networking and mobilizing people around common focus (at local level/members) - Ability to understand the context and the audience - Advocacy skills and influencing skills - Media relation skills (use of different media); ability to work effectively with media (especially: Media pack, timing, etc.) - Communication skills: o Writing skills: able to write attractive publications and briefs as well as reports according to ANSAF format o PR Skills in reaction/ in relation to environment o Public speaking |
This is a contractual job for 1 year (renewable) with Gross payment of 2.5 Million
